Satechi BW-2052 Built-In Bluetooth Car Stereo with Music Streaming, CD Receiver with Front AUX / USB / SD/MMC card CD / MP3 / WMA player with Remote Control Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I've had an Alpine stereo with the original BT-100 bluetooth module for years. It just has not worked well with my Android phone, and the bluetooth protocols, so I set out to find a new stereo with bluetooth and an Aux input, so that my wife could plug her phone in when she's in the car with me. I scoured models up to $600, and only the top-of-the-line Parrot Car Stereo offered Aux input together with full Bluetooth support. The Panasonics didn't have Bluetooth A2DP streaming, only the headset protocol. The Alpines would only offer iPhone plus bluetooth OR Aux input, but not both. I don't have an iPhone anymore, nor do I plan to go back. As I kept looking, more and more products had Bluetooth headset, but not stereo streaming (A2DP) or no remote control (RCP), or you had to choose between bluetooth, Aux input, or a microphone, because they all used the same jack to make room for a dedicated iPhone cable that can't be used with anything else but an iPhone. The industry is way too iPhone centric right now. (If you have an Android phone, get this stereo and a eye-level phone cradle, and use your phone as the controller.)
Then along comes this little stereo, that seemed to good to be true, but at $100, I took the chance. I have to say that it is worth every penny, and works better than ones selling for $200 and $300. It paired easily with my Evo 4G, and handles everything by auto-switching. I don't have change to bluetooth. If I play something on my phone, it auto-switches over and pumps it through my stereo. When it's done, it switches back to the radio. If I put in a CD, it automatically switches to the CD player, then to my phone when I get a call, then back to the CD player when I hang up. I don't have to even think about it. Good work Satechi. You can switch manually if you want to, but the auto-switching will generally anticipate your needs.
If you haven't noticed already, it also has an internal microphone built right into the unit. Even the Parrot Car Stereo doesn't have that. With this stereo, there's no microphone to run through the dash or install on your visor, and the sound quality for me has been even better than the wired mic I had on my Alpine. On other mics my wife had to keep asking me to repeat what I said. With the Satechi, we've had normal conversations so far, without any repeats! I'm impressed.
Another person who reviewed this said that his wouldn't play the CD, but I am not having that problem. Everything on the radio is working fantastically.
