Philips- DVP5990 - Multi Region DVD Player 1080P - upscaling Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This is a top-notch DVD player for those whose tastes in movies goes beyond what is currently being offered by US companies. I personally hate to be at the mercy of what companies think I should or should not be able to watch, and am really pleased to find such an excellent region-free player.
So far, it has handled all my DVDs with no problem. Region 2 Japanese DVDs? Plays great. Region 2 PAL DVD from the Netherlands? No problems. (A real shame that Orson Wells classic "Falstaff" does not have a US release, but that just shows why a region-free player is necessary.)
Aside from DVDs, this player handles CDs, DivX and everything else I have popped into it. It even has a USB port, so if you download anything you can just pop it into a Flash memory stick and watch it on this player.
Sadly, I haven't used the upscaling function yet, because I don't have an HD TV yet. But if it works as well as everything else has on this player, then I assume I have nothing to worry about, and am looking forward to being able to try it out.

Be impressed with this Philips DVD player with HDMI digital video and audio connection. Step into another home entertainment arena as you immerse yourself with High Definition video (720p / 1080i/1080p). HDMI for simple AV connection: HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. It is a direct digital connection that can carry digital HD video as well as digital multichannel audio. By eliminating the conversion to analog signals it delivers perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise. HDMI is fully backward-compatible with (Digital Video Interface) DVI. DivX Ultra Certified: DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with great features like integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one convenient file format. High definition JPEG playback: High definition JPEG playback lets you view your pictures on your television in resolutions as high as two megapixels. Now you can view your digital pictures in absolute clarity, without loss of quality or detail - and share them with friends and family in the comfort of your living room. Progressive Scan: Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure. Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link: The Universal Serial Bus or USB is a protocol standard that is conveniently used to link PCs, peripherals and consumer electronic equuipment. Hi-Speed USB devices have a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps - up from the 12 Mbps in original USB ones. With Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link, all you have to do is plug in your USB device, select the movie, music or photo and play away.

Pioneer DV-120K-K Region Free DVD Player with USB - Karaoke - and DivX playback Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I bought this DVD player this week and its quite sleek and plays all those DVDs which were not playable on my samsung DVD player...so very happy about the performance. The only draw back is that it doesnt have HDMI but connected it with the component output cables. Picture is crisp and sound quality is good...controls are easy except that the batteries seem to be a loose fit in the remote so make a rattling sound. I have yet to try out the Karaoke, USB and CD ripping functions..will discover it at my leisure. For now, im quite satisfied with the output.
Cheers

PIONEER DV-220V-K 1080p HDMI UPSCALING REGION FREE DVD PLAYER w/ USB Input Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I will only buy region free DVD players. This is super easy to use, weighs next to nothing, and doesn't take up much space in my cabinet. I plays DVD's from Germany, the U.S. and just ordered a DVD from Amazon UK. I have a few DVD's that are slightly scratched and haven't had any skipping with this player like I did with my older player. If you ever think you might be purchasing a DVD outside of the U.S. this is the economical player for you.
