ASUS WiCast EW2000 Wireless HD Video Transmitter and Receiver Review

ASUS WiCast EW2000 Wireless HD Video Transmitter and Receiver

(More customer reviews)
I'm looking for wireless HD solutions for a while to meet my needs : 1. to work with my DirectTV receiver DIRECTV Plus® HR24 High Definition MPEG-4 DVR (HR-24-500) HD DVRand wirelessly transmit the HD A/V signals to my 2nd TV in other room; 2. to wirelessly send signals to the projector from my laptop with HDMI output. Recently I found Amimon's WHDI solution is the most latest and advanced technology and here comes two products using this technology which can fulfill my requests and I got both of them. They are ASUS WiCast EW2000 Wireless HD Video Transmitter and Receiver (from my laptlop) and brite-View Air SyncHD New Arrival! brite-View "Air SyncHD" (BV-2322) Wireless 1080p HD Video/ Audio Transmission Kit(for my DirectTV receiver) and I'm satisfied with both of them so far though with limited time of ownership.
Asus WiCast is pretty straight forward to set up, I only need to connect the transmitter to my laptop and connect the receiver to the projector and it's done, it wirelessly streams everything on my laptop screen to the projector and then on the projection screen. The quality of signals and transmission are great (but probably it's designed for in-room usage only so there's limitation of the distance and the penetration. I tried to connect it to the DirecTV receiver but the signal got choppy after the wall in between even it's within 30 feet).
brite-View Air SyncHD works just like it should be, I connect the transmitter to DirectTV receiver (and connect the HDMI output of the transmitter with HDTV to pass through the signals) and also connect the receiver to my 2nd TV in other room within 30 feet. The quality of HD A/V signals and transmission are great too, only it takes a bit longer to synchronize. The penetration is great without any delay and I can control the DirectTV receiver in other room with its IR sensor/extender.
I really like these two products and the WHDI technology really works great. I review both of them is to provide information and reference for those who are also looking for wireless HD solutions and you can decide which one is most suitable for your situation. Hopefully it helps!

IKTV Karaoke Entertainment Station with Microphone Review

IKTV Karaoke Entertainment Station with Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had the IKTV player for about 3 years now and it sill works well. It can be a bit fussy sometimes taking multiple loads to read a disc though.
2 things stand out for this system;
1) It is from a company that is VCD based in it's format, not CD+G. So if you have a bunch of the U-Best discs, you might not be able to take them with you to Karaoke at the local pub or friends house if you are in the United States (Region 1 dvd code). American markets is Cd+g based and I would say it is a toss up as to whether a CD+G system will read these discs. Depends on the model and most VJ's will probably not know.
which is a shame because
2) Theses discs are not just words on a screen, they are short films depicting the songs. Similar to the old Laserdisc systems. Pretty high quality stuff. Much more entertaining than the basic words on a blue screen.

I can run with these for many miles in heat and they don't fall off - only one's I've found yet that do that. I do see the concern with the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter mentioned by another as I use this with an ipod - not a phone so will try to get an extension or better adapter but the ear fit is second to none - snug into the ear makes the music good and loud. I've used them for months now running from sprints to 20+ miles and they just stay on.

Belkin Conserve Socket F7C009q Energy Saving Outlet Review

Belkin Conserve Socket F7C009q Energy Saving Outlet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With many "Conserve" products, Belkin doesn't necessarily create a brand new concept with their creation, but they excel in design and execution!
I am a fan of their remote-switch "Conserve" power strip, and I love this little gadget too.
It's essentially just a timer for an outlet, not unlike the existing products you can find on Amazon, but Belkin greatly simplified the controls, and made it so the power timer is on-demand instead of on a schedule.
Unlike the relatively complicated dials of some other timers, the controls on the Belkin Conserve Socket are pretty much idiot proof. There's a switch on the site that lets you choose from one of three time increments (1/2 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours), then a button on top to start the timer. It then shuts itself off when the time elapses. That's it! Easy.
It's perfect for keeping a lamp on while the kids go to sleep, for charging gadgets where you want to reduce phantom draw, and this Christmas, I think I'm going to try it out for attaching my Christmas tree lights (turning the lights on only when we want to for a time).
Overall this is a nice, simple (and inexpensive!) product.

Magellan Premium Car Kit for iPhone and iPod touch Review

Magellan Premium Car Kit for iPhone and iPod touch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well I have been using this for a bit over a week now and here are my impressions:
Pros:
-Excellent build quality; very solid and holds my iPhone (in a Speck PixelSkin case) very sturdily.
-Good mounting of iPhone with swivelling dock connector and flexible/adjustable top clip.
-Fits iPhone perfectly with my Speck PixelSkin case. But be warned - it was adjusted to its highest point, so it wont fit a case larger than the PixelSkin.
-GPS fix more accurate than iPhone's internal GPS. This resulted in less jerky movements and less jumping around during GPS application usage.
Cons:
-GPS signal dropped out far more often than my standalone TomTom PND. This is unacceptable in a product meant to improve GPS reception that actually uses the same GPS chip as the TomTom PND I am comparing it with.
-With kit mounted on windscreen the iPhone overheated and stopped working (displayed a temperature warning message and forced itself into sleep mode) once. Mind you this was after three hours of driving, directly towards the Australian summer sun on a 35C/95F day. This is not a shortcoming of this Magellan kit, but rather an issue with mounting iPhones in car windscreens in general.
-When switching the car ignition from 'accessories' to 'run' and then to 'on', the Magellan kit naturally loses power momentarily. However when it powers back on, it often would not sync with the iPhone's Bluetooth as the power cycle was too fast. I would need to manually power cycle the Magellan kit (ie. remove power plug, then reconnect) allowing enough time for the iPhone to lose Bluetooth sync before re-establishing the power.
MAJOR MAJOR CON:
-When you plug a 3.5mm audio cable into the AUX connector on the Magellan kit (for attaching to a car stereo, or external powered speakers, etc.), the music and application sounds CONTINUE COMING OUT OF THE BUILT-IN SPEAKER!!! This is a ridiculous design, as it means to listen to music through your car stereo without the crappy built-in speaker ruining the music for you, you need to turn down the volume on the Magellan Kit (as this only controls the volume of the built-in speaker). But then if you receive a call, the call audio (via Bluetooth) cannot be heard (as you have turned the volume down on the built-in speaker, which is where the call audio is sent), so you have to manually turn the volume up on the Magellan kit again (using a fiddly little dial that is difficult and dangerous to find while trying to concentrate on driving). You have to do this EVERY TIME a call arrives... STUPID!
Why oh why was the kit designed like this? We will never know. However Magellan have responded to my question about it and have indicated that they will release some sort of firmware/software/application fix for this speaker problem in the near future.

Altec Lansing inMotion SoundBlade Bluetooth A2DP Speaker/Speakerphone (Black) Review

Altec Lansing inMotion SoundBlade Bluetooth A2DP Speaker/Speakerphone (Black)
Average Reviews:

Over the past month I have owned/compared the Yamaha NX-B02, Parrot Party, and Altec Lansing Soundblade (Amazon's return policy makes it easy). The Soundblade is very good, but I thought the Parrot was the best (and kept it while returning the other 2). You can read my reviews for the other 2. For the Soundblade, it certainly was put together well with excellent features (speakerphone and can control the music player somewhat) and design. It played the loudest, but had the least impressive bass of the 3 and had the most distortion of the 3 in the upper frequencies. I realize that no speaker system this size will sound great, but the Parrot (using bluetooth) and the Yamaha (using line-in) sounded better. For moderate listening volumes, it certainly was adequate. I also felt like the Parrot was a little more portable for what I'm using it for (back deck and pool), although the Soundblade would probably be the best for travel (thin).

Average Reviews:

I have previously used the Maxell DVD-RW discs available at Sam's Club. Maxell is a reputable company, and they make superior products. However with my Sony Camcorder, about a third of those gave me errors, long access time, and I could hear the laser head on the camcorder "hunting" a lot. I assume there are compatiility issues with non-Sony discs. Once moving to these Sony discs, all problems stopped, and everything works as it should. I did not get a chance to test the claimed superior scratch resistance, but if even 20% of that is true, it should be great.

Sony ECMMS907 Digital Recording Microphone Review

Sony ECMMS907 Digital Recording Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used the ECMMS907 to fill about 150 mini discs since I bought it three years ago. It runs lovingly on one AA battery (unlike it's watch-battery-dependent predecessor) and allows for two polor patterns 180 and 90 degrees. The casing of the unit is rugged. It includes wind screen, travel pouch, stand clip, and four foot cloth encased cable. I have been able to record everything from street musicians to Dave Bruebeck concerts.
In pro audio it isn't considerd cool to like Sony gear as it often uses digital tricks to achieve a bogus sense of higher fidelity, but Sony electronics are bulletproof and work exactly as designed until you lose them or back them over with your car. That said...
Lots of people I have spoken with purchased this microphone thinking they could jack into the 1/8" input on thier laptop computer and get desirable results. This might work if your microphone is inches away from a blaring guitar amp, but won't do well with amient recordings or speaking as the output gain is far too low. Most people are not happy in this situation.
Overall, worth every penny. Perhaps there is a modification out there to improve the output gain.

GOgroove FlexSMART 4i Car Mount System Hi-Fi FM Transmitter and Charger for AT&T and Verizon Apple iPhone and iPod (NEWEST AND PREVIOUS MODELS) Review

GOgroove FlexSMART 4i Car Mount System Hi-Fi FM Transmitter and Charger for ATandT and Verizon Apple iPhone and iPod (NEWEST AND PREVIOUS MODELS)
Average Reviews:

Overall, two thumbs up. I typically don't write product reviews, but I looked around and tried a number of methods and devices to do what I describe in the following, and after much time and mistrials, the only product I found that does it all is the GoGroove FlexSmart.
I wanted the product to do three things: (a) First, I wanted a car charger for my iPhone 4. The FlexSmart does that just fine, and the price of the item is about the same as an Apple car charger. (b)I wanted a iPhone holder for the car; it's OK for that. A little bit wobbly, but I feel safe mounting my device to it. Its gooseneck neck isn't too long, which probably adds to the stability, but it also makes it somewhat crowded around my car's dashboard controls (e.g., heater knobs). I can live with that. (c) I wanted an FM tuner base. I tried the only FM tuner presently suggested by Apple for iPhone 4, the Belkin, which contrary to what Apple states, did not work with my iPhone 4. The GoGroove tunes my iPhone 4 just fine.
A couple of minuses: (1) the materials the GoGroove are made from aren't top notch. It's worth the $40 I paid, but not much more than that. (2) I have to take my iPhone out of its bumper to properly seat with the GoGroove. The same was true with the Belkin tuner, so that's probably a problem with Apple's bumper.

HTC Aria Android Phone (AT&T) Review

HTC Aria Android Phone (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, my wife and I have been using our new Aria phones for about a week now. I switched from a Blackberry Bold and she was using a 1st generation iPhone (although hers didn't have any data plan). We also purchased one of the 3G MicroCells from AT&T at the same time - so our cell signal at home is now better than I thought would be possible.
As far as our profiles go: I'm a tech addict - I work at home as a C/C++ programmer and tend to be an early adopter of anything tech related. My wife is kind of the opposite - she relies on me to keep the tech stuff going and tends to resist new technology since she knows it can often be more of a headache than it is worth:).
Fortunately, this phone is working for both of us. The Android OS has been great - although there are some features in the next version (Froyo) that I wish were on this phone already. I spent several hours yesterday figuring out how to 'root' this phone and I did end up getting it done last night. My wife's went a lot faster since I already understood the process.
Here are some things I like about the Aria:
1) The size of the Aria is perfect. It is smaller than either the Blackberry Bold or the iPhone, yet the screen is very usable. This is a very 'pocketable' phone.
2) The touch screen works great. It supports all the common touch controls like zooming, swiping, etc...
3) There is a version of Kindle available for Android! And it works great - I'll still use my Kindle, but this will work when I'm out without it.
4) I like being able to mix programs and widgets on each screen. It took a few days of playing with it, but we both now have our phones setup to work well for us.
5) The text input works well; but, if you decide to root your phone, do yourself a favor and install the latest version of Swype. This has turned out to be an unbelievably great method of inputting text and both my wife and I are loving it for e-mails and texting!
6) The selection of apps available to this phone through the market is great! I've been able to find apps for everything I want, and I'm looking into writing some myself just to see how it works.
7) The voice quality is excellent. When I first started using the phone I would get that 'Wow!' impression every time I talked to someone - even when out of range of the MicroCell.
8) Web browsing is very snappy and easy. This is an area where the Blackberry really sucked, so I'm loving the real browser with Flash.
9) Once I figured out the task switching and status bar at the top, I've found them very useful. On the other hand, I'm not sure my wife will ever take the time to look into those features.
10) I really like that I can get both my personal e-mail (GMail) and work e-mail (Exchange) - and they integrate together very intuitively. I'm using multiple GMail accounts on this phone with no problem.
11) This is one of those phones that really doesn't need a protective case. The back cover is 'rubbery' and easy to grip - and actually seems to be as protective as any additional cover would be. I like the protective cover much more than the decorative cover that comes on the iPhone (that most people end up covering anyway).
12) This phone supports pattern unlocking; which is a much easier form of security than typing a PIN or password. Once again, this is an area where Android comes through against the iPhone. (NOTE: If you connect to Exchange, the pattern unlock feature can be disabled by your Exchange policy - but this can be worked around if you're willing to do some tweaking.)
13) I've been playing around with the voice input for a couple of days and it works great (although it isn't perfect). You can use it anywhere you can enter text - and it just converts your voice to text. I've been alternating between voice input and Swype, depending on whether other people are around who would make fun of me talking to my phone. :)
Things I'm looking forward to:
1) This phone does not support voice dialing through BlueTooth - but the next version (Froyo) does. I am excited to get that feature on this phone.
2) This phone has some nice accessories that seem to be in the pipeline, but they aren't available yet. iPhones, on the other hand, have gobs of accessories available from day one. (My wife wants a red cover for hers so we can tell them apart more easily.)
Things that could be improved:
1) As with any phone, I think we can always wish for better battery life. If I use the phone non-stop through the day (which I did at first), the battery will last an entire day. I can get through about 2 days of normal use without charging. There is an app called 'Advanced Task Killer' in the market that helps with battery life.
2) I wish there was a way to change sound profiles when charging. I found a program called 'Setting Profiles Lite' that does this, but it seems like it should be built into the Android OS like it is in the Blackberry.
3) The contact manager could be improved. When sending a text, for example, it gives the option of every phone number for a contact instead of just mobile numbers...
Anyway, I've probably yammered on enough already; but I really am enjoying this phone. If you're using AT&T, and looking for an alternative to the over-hyped iPhone, then I think this is probably THE phone to get at this point.

Boston Acoustics SOLO2W Solo II AM/FM Radio with Clock (Gloss White) Review

Boston Acoustics SOLO2W Solo II AM/FM Radio with Clock (Gloss White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, note that the SOLO2W is the same as the SOLO2B, except white (even though the picture looks different). So look at the reviews for the SOLO2B, too.
I think that this is a really fine clock radio. It has the two features that are important for me: 1) a standard, external FM antenna coax connection and 2) a good digital tuner. The sound is good, too.
As shipped, when you have the radio turned on, the radio station frequency (not the time) shows on the display. But you can change it by going to the "INFO" option, so that you see the time while the radio is on.
The display is bright and I cover it at night, but that is minor.

Audio Technica ATM75 Headset Microphone Review

Audio Technica ATM75 Headset Microphone
Average Reviews:

I just got this mic and tried it for the first time - I LOVE it! It does have a wire, but that's OK, I'm a keyboard player and don't move enough to make it matter. The amazing freedom this gave me on the first song was wonderful! Quality was very good, although when I hummed, the mic didn't pick it up - I'll have to fuss with the settings a little more. I used the phantom power from the board and even with monitors in place, got NO feedback, even with effects! Love the fact that it's powered (condenser) instead of dynamic. This is a great mic. Hope it lasts a long time!

Sony MEXBT5100 CD Receiver Review

Sony MEXBT5100 CD Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, I'd like to say this is one the most stylish single-din head units I've seen. Not only does it look cool but it sounds great too. This receiver really enhances my speakers in comparison to my factory Infinity unit.
The main reason I purchased this player is because I have a NWZ-A829 Sony Walkman player, which supports bluetooth and A2DP audio streaming, so the main focus of this review is going to be on this functionality.
Something about being able to stream 16GB worth of music wireless is very appealing to me. Now of course streaming music through bluetooth is going to require some compression of the audio, but the A829 walkman has a High-quality streaming option which to me sounds better than satellite radio. I'd say it the sound quality is around or slightly better than a 128kbps bitrate .mp3 file, which is much better than I was expecting. You have the option to switch through songs on either the walkman/cell phone or you can hit the >> button on the player to navigate through songs, although from what I've seen it does not display the id3 tag info on the screen.
I have not tried the bluetooth call settings but from what I've read on the BT-5000 model, it comes in good but the microphone transmits your voice sounding a little like you're talking through a tin can.
Aside from all that, the MEX-BT5100 is full of options like preset and custom EQ settings, an AUX input for Satellite radio or a mp3 player in case it does not have the A2DP(bluetooth audio streaming). Also, the radio tuner finds stations almost instantly when you hit the >> button, I pick up way more stations than I used to and they come in much better too.

With safety and convenience at the fore front, the Sony MEXBT5100 offers full connectivity to your Bluetooth cell phone providing hands-free talking, caller ID, dialing from the head unit and audio streaming from any Bluetooth MP3 device (using A2DP transferring).
Take Your Calls Over Your Car Speakers The Sony MEXBT5100 has Bluetooth wireless technology for simple hands-free phone calls and audio streaming (with a Bluetooth compatible phone). This means you can now make and receive calls through you car's speaker system--letting you keep your hands on the wheel instead of your cell phone. If you happen to be listening to music when a call comes in, the Sony MEXBT5100 will automatically mute the song so you can take your call. You can also pair the stereo with up to six cell phones and six music players.
Bluetooth Bluetooth technology is how mobile phones, computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs) can be easily interconnected.
Xplod Power So, just how much power is enough? As much as possible! Rear/Sub Selectable Preout w/LPF with a preamp output that can be switched from a full-range output to a sub out with a low-pass crossover and an independent level control.

Pioneer Premier DEH-P790BT - Radio / CD / MP3 player - Full-DIN - in-dash - 50 Watts x 4 Review

Pioneer Premier DEH-P790BT - Radio / CD / MP3 player - Full-DIN - in-dash - 50 Watts x 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall, I'm happy with the Pioneer bluetooth unit. I can use it for my Zune, make and receive calls through my bluetooth phone, and it automatically detects my phone when i get into the car. If i am having a conversation on my phone while walking to the car, i can get into the car and it detects the phone and switches to bluetooth use automatically and quickly, without the person on the other end of the line even knowing. I've also been told that there is very little background noise when driving and talking, so the reception is very clear for the person on the other end of the line.
My main complaint is that the pioneer system does not have voice-command dialing on its own, but only through the phone, and when in the voice-command mode it does not play voice prompts through either the car or phone speakers, but just shows results on the screen. In contrast, my inexpensive stand-alone bluetooth headset can prompt back through the phone speakers, which makes voice recognition really easy (e.g. it asks, "do you mean call John at work or John at home?"). I'd love to be able to do this through the car stereo, but the Pioneer bluetooth system does not initiate use of the speakers until the phone number is being dialed. (This means that i have to look at the prompts on my smartphone's screen while trying to do voice dialing -- as a result, i can't really use voice-dialing while driving.) It does have a speed-dialing option, but i haven't set it up yet.
My other major complaint is that I wasn't able to get the Pioneer unit to upload my Motorola Q address book. (In contrast, when testing in the store, the Parrot on display was able to upload my Q's information.)
It would also be great if one could upload one's own little animated movies to the screen.

Griffin Power Block Micro for iPhone and iPod (Black) Review

Griffin Power Block Micro for iPhone and iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the much larger regular Griffin power block with dual USB power outlets Griffin Technology PowerBlock for iPad, iPhone and iPod, 2 amp - Black and on the basis of the reliable performance from that unit just purchased this Micro edition for travel. Compared to the official Apple unit (which appears to be available only at Apple Store and bricks and mortar retailers like Best Buy and not on Amazon), I prefer this unit for 3 reasons:
* The power prongs fold into the unit. On the Apple unit, they do not, and will "poke" into other gear and whatever pouch you are using to hold your "kit." Yes, the metal could potentially scratch an unprotected Touch put in there too. The Griffin Micro avoids this problem with its folding prongs. [2-17-11 update: The folding power prongs are REALLY essential for travel. I took an international flight and the seat back came with a power socket. So instead of stowing the Griffin in its own compartment in my overhead bag, I tossed it into my seat-side pack. Being able to retract the prongs so they wouldn't scratch my iPod or wear a hole in my pack or hang up on the mesh of the side pocket on the pack was awesome. Don't underestimate how helpful the folding feature is, compared to the one from Apple.]
* This includes a nice docking/power cable. Since these are expensive from Apple, and since some inexpensive 3rd party cables often don't work (or work only for charging and not for synchronizing), this really improves the value of this package.
* It was ten bucks cheaper than an actual, authentic, retail version Apple power charger at my time of purchase, and the Apple charger DOESN'T include a power/synch cable.
* Griffin appears to be the only "name" company making an accessory cube, although there are obviously a lot of counterfeit Apple cubes out there.
There's not much else to say about a simple, small power supply that does its job except to add a couple of caveats (warnings) for potential purchasers:
First, with respect to this Griffin, unlike ALL the other "white" cables I have (both those from Apple but also some accessory purchases from non-Apple vendors), this cable will only release from the body of the player WHEN YOU PINCH ITS SIDES IN. That is actually a GOOD thing, the cable won't come loose or accidentally separate from the Touch, but keep in mind that Apple connectors and accessory connectors don't "lock" in the dock on the Touch like this one does, which means most of us users aren't trained to pinch the sides to release the cable to release it. That meant my wife was trying to forcibly "wrestle" the Griffin power cable out of her Touch and was just about to damage the docking port on the Touch! It took even me a couple of moments to finger out you need to squeeze the ends of the Griffin cable to release it from the docking port.
Second, do NOT purchase "Apple" oem power supplies, often at ridiculously low prices, on Ebay or here on Amazon. I have purchased a few and all of them turned out to be counterfeit - either down to Apple logos and details, or without logos and writing, but in Apple "trade dress" which is to say they look exactly the same except for the small print markings. MOST of these SEEM to work well, but we have several 3rd and 4th gen Touches, and I ran into two interesting problems: on one Touch, one of the units simply wouldn't work and I got an error message on the screen of the Touch. On another Touch, it seemed to work fine (charging wasn't a problem) but when I tried to operate the unit while charging, the capacitive screen was responding weirdly to my touch inputs - misreading my password entries, for example.
I suspect that the regulator circuitry in some counterfeits simply isn't up to spec. It is either overcharging (the touch screen problems) or undercharging (the error message about an incompatible charger). While no counterfeit has actually "fried" any of my Touches, the problems I've had make me suspicious of all of them. I'd rather have a charger from either Apple or a reliable, responsible company like Griffin. I have been told that battery life on Touches is very dependent on NOT overcharging them - that the regulator circuitry in both the charger and the Touch have to work together to turn off charging short of "maximum". To me that means that even if there isn't immediate damage, a no-name 3rd party charger could be bad for the long term life of my Touch. So please consider getting either an authentic Apple charger from a RELIABLE source with APPLE packaging, getting an old but authentic Apple charger from someone upgrading their iPhone (iPhones come with chargers, Touches don't), or buying one like this from Griffin.
A word on my accessory docking/power cables: I have purchased accessory docking/power cables from Marketplace sellers here, too. Some won't fit all my Touches! The quality control leaves a lot to be desired. So getting the "free" one from Griffin is good. I am also glad it is in black, so I will know its the one that requires pinching to release.
I would like to see Amazon stock and sell OEM Apple chargers in retail packaging. Until they do that, please be careful when looking at so-called "Apple" chargers from Amazon Marketplace sellers, and also on Ebay.
This Griffin will also power other USB-port powered devices. A caveat with respect to some cellphones that have USB ports though - although my Motorola cellphone has its own USB charger (which I have successfully used to charge non-Motorola USB powered devices), the Motorola cellphone itself will NOT accept a non-Motorola USB charger (like this Griffin) - apparently the proprietary-minded engineers at Motorola (may there be an e-waste circle of hell for them) put an i.d. code in their cellphone charger which and if my Motorola cellphone is hooked up to a different (i.e., non-Motorola) charger, the cellphone itself displays an "unauthorized charger" message on its screen and refuses to charge, even though voltage/amp/polarity/plug specs are otherwise identical. While I hate an excess of government regulations, Europe has a much better approach, requiring all new cellphone chargers to be interchangeable and standard (the standard being USB).
