(More customer reviews)Overall, two thumbs up. I typically don't write product reviews, but I looked around and tried a number of methods and devices to do what I describe in the following, and after much time and mistrials, the only product I found that does it all is the GoGroove FlexSmart.
I wanted the product to do three things: (a) First, I wanted a car charger for my iPhone 4. The FlexSmart does that just fine, and the price of the item is about the same as an Apple car charger. (b)I wanted a iPhone holder for the car; it's OK for that. A little bit wobbly, but I feel safe mounting my device to it. Its gooseneck neck isn't too long, which probably adds to the stability, but it also makes it somewhat crowded around my car's dashboard controls (e.g., heater knobs). I can live with that. (c) I wanted an FM tuner base. I tried the only FM tuner presently suggested by Apple for iPhone 4, the Belkin, which contrary to what Apple states, did not work with my iPhone 4. The GoGroove tunes my iPhone 4 just fine.
A couple of minuses: (1) the materials the GoGroove are made from aren't top notch. It's worth the $40 I paid, but not much more than that. (2) I have to take my iPhone out of its bumper to properly seat with the GoGroove. The same was true with the Belkin tuner, so that's probably a problem with Apple's bumper.

I also have a Griffin that works very well but wanted something with a holder like this. The transmitter seems faulty as I have tried it in several vehicles and it does not transmit the frequencies for voice very well or if at all. It's like it has a built in Kareoki mode which is fine if you like to sing in your car but I like to hear the performing artist. I will wind up tossing this as it is unusable. The seller delivered as promised but for the price I didn't expect much and I got what I expected.

The scanning function doesn't even pick the best of the static stations, when you are lucky it is only .1 or .2 off from a decent station, but about half the time there is no transmission at all. Also the dial, which initially looks fancy and fun, is very awkward to manipulate while driving. So essentially this is a very expensive ipod charger for when you are on the go.

This is one of the many Bluetooth 2.0 stereo trans mitters for iPod that's out there, and there are limitations associated with trying to play music over Bluetooth to your home stereo--at least, that's what I use it for. If you are concerned or want to know about Bluetooth stereo transmitters in general, you can find that info elsewhere. The distinctive about this one is that it allows for volume control from your iPod. This may seem like a no-brainer, but there are several brands of this similar product which do not allow for this--including the Sony and Miccus equivelents. The sound quality is actually really good (you have to boost the volume on your stereo a little bit). But it really does turn your iPod into a full-fledged remote in your hand! Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)This is a great and useful product, but must be turned to European mode to reach 87.7 - 87.9 since for some reason Griffin thinks that they are not allowed to use these frequencies (they are).
On the FM transmitter box, push the middle button (Function) and then press and hold the "Mode" button (the right one) for approximately 10 seconds. When you let go you will see a menu for "Us" "Eu" "Ja", select the middle button, "Eu". Let the device sit for a few seconds until it goes back to the main screen, then tune your radio and the transmitter to 87.7 - 87.9! Now you can use the device on the frequencies that will rarely give you interference (I have the best luck in St. Louis with 87.7).

The bluetooth signal works well for short range ( the 33 feet seems accurate as outside limit) and in my case transmits clearly through walls to another room. The only reservation is that the transmitter only works with the two pin headsets for ipods. That is, it works with my older Ipod photo but doesnt fit the newer Ipod video.

Griffin iTrip Auto for iPhone and iPod 4G Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this iTrip product for use with an iPhone 3GS. I am familiar with the limitations of FM transmitters and have purchased various models over the years including Griffin iTrip predescessors and have had decent success (particular units like Griffin that allow you to set the FM station to below 88.1 using Europe settings).
This unit is seriously flawed. First of all, even though it indicates that it is iPhone (3G/3GS) compatible, the iPhone displays an error message that the iTrip is not compatible with the iPhone. Apparently this is due to lack of certification from Apple.
Ignoring this problem, I was unable to get the FM transmitter to work on a clear station. The unit charges the iPhone fine. I tried several station, including 87.9, several cars, and several devices (iTouch, old iPod), etc. I contacted Griffin and they sent me a replacement unit.
The replacement unit faired a little better. I was able to get it to work in one car (Toyota) after removing/inserting the power plug multiple times but not in other cars (BMW, Acura). I noticed with the BMW I was finally able to get the transmitter to work with much noise, but only in the upper FM dial, e.g., 104.5 FM.
The support group at Griffin was very polite and responsive but told me that they don't make the transmitters as powerful as their older models due to FCC limitations in the last four years. They offered to send me yet another unit but I did not see the point. Unfortunately for me, since I tried to deal with Griffin directly, I exceeded the Amazon 30 day return window (this was a gift that I gave to someone else).
There is also an iPhone application for this iTrip but it has little value.
While the unit appears to be nice for iPhone (including the ability to advance through a playlist from the iTrip without turning on the iPhone), it does not work and should be avoided.
UPDATE. Griffin sent me a 3rd unit. I was unable to get any reception with it. In the meanwhile, I purchased an FM transmitter/charger from Grantwood Technology and highly recommend it. Reception is great with no static and unit costs less than the iTrip

You may hear a little high pitched noise at high volumes, but that is a small price to pay for the amazing amount of clarity provided. The remote control is pretty flimsy and has to be held almost directly next to it to work but that's not the reason I purchased it so I was hardly disappointed. I really don't think you'll find a better product on the market.

I do like the fact that it is wireless so unless you are charging your ipod you dont need it pluged in. What I dont like about it is there are no buttons to pre-set so if you get static you have to fumble around til you find a clear station. If all you wanna do is listin to your ipod to and from work go ahead and get this but if you travel alot Id go with something else
