Sony D-FJ003 CD Walkman with AM/FM Tuner (Black) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I wanted the reliability and quality of a Sony, and a CD player AND radio in one unit was very important to me, but I did not want to pay a lot as not too long ago I had purchased a Panasonic CD player/radio, and the CD player conked out on me pretty rapidly. This Walkman is durable (I have dropped it a few times, and the CD didn't even skip when dropped, and the unit still works wonderfully!). It is also relatively simple to operate. However, I do not like the buttons or display window much. The buttons are hard to press one-handed, and the display is hard to read most of the time. The buttons and display are located on the edge/circumference of the Walkman rather than on the nice, broad top, making it difficult to access them. NEVERTHELESS, if you want a quality Sony product at a good price and you aren't terribly bothered by button or display ergonomics (I am not), this is a Walkman for you. Great value for the money!

Giving new meaning to the phrase "rock on," the RCA RP2600 personal CD player delivers up to 20 hours of playback from a single pair of AA batteries, letting you enjoy your favorite tunes during an across-the-world plane ride or cross-country bus trip without running out of juice prematurely. Even better, the unit isn't confined to CDs only, as it also plays CD-R and CD-RW discs in addition to CDs bundled with MP3 and WMA files. The latter feature is particularly convenient for traveling, as MP3-CDs can hold up to 10 hours of music each. The upshot is that you won't need to bring along an entire CD library to have access to a ton of music.
The CD player also boasts RCA's 60-second espXtreme anti-skip protection, which retains up to a minute of your music in its built-in memory. Should you accidentally jostle the player during a workout or hit a speed bump, the RC2600 continues to play as if nothing happened. Meanwhile, the audio performance is enhanced by the digital bass boost button, which adds depth to the low-end frequencies for a richer overall sound. Additional features include an auto-off function, which automatically shuts down the unit 30 seconds after a disc has finished playing to preserve battery power; 24-track programming; an easy-to-read LCD display; and a pair of comfortable e-clipz clip-on headphones.
The CD player measures 5.55 by 1.09 by 5.55 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

Sony D-FJ041 CD Walkman Portable CD Player with AM/FM Tuner Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This Walkman by Sony offers music lovers the opportunity to listen to music files stored on a CD-R, a regular CD (of course), a CD-RW--AND there's even a digital AM and FM radio tuner! While this lacks certain features that a music aficionado might want (like the ATRAC system that some CD players have), this Walkman is really a very good choice for most people including myself. I have more than one Walkman but this is the one I use most often for when I am "on the go;" it's the one I don't mind if it accidentally gets a little bit banged up over time.
You can preset up to twenty FM stations and you can preset up to 10 AM stations--but this won't pick up AM stations very well unless they're located relatively close to where you are. However, that's still good for this price range. This Walkman uses two AA batteries and you get a good amount of play time out of the batteries if you pick good ones. It weighs barely more than seven ounces--great!
At first glance the controls on the Walkman itself appear slightly confusing but after about five minutes tops you learn all the important and most commonly used functions. The controls also make it easy to do basic things such as adjusting the sound, starting a CD and stopping it. The instruction manual is fairly clear as well. The Walkman does have "playback modes" but I rarely use them so I can't comment on that.
Unfortunately, I noticed some disappointments. The controls are rather small so you need to be careful of how you touch them with your fingers. Finally, this type of ear phone set hurts my ears almost from the very start of listening to a CD on this Walkman. I strongly suggest you purchase a better quality headset or earphones that will be more comfortable. (I have to take off one star for that--sorry!)
Overall, music lovers will be very pleased with this affordable Walkman. The features work reliably. The quality of the sound is excellent; and it can handle quite a few presets for different radio stations.

Sony DEJ011 CD Walkman« Portable CD Player Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This is one of the best CD players I've used. I listen to a lot of Books on Tape and this player picks up exactly where you leave off even if you stop it to do something else for awhile. It's fairly good about playing scratched CDs and has not jumped while I have been working out in the yard or walking with it. The ear phones are OK but get bit irritating after wearing them for a time. If you are looking for a good CD portable player without the radio, this is it. It is pretty light on battery use also.
